Little Empty Boxes
Animation Reel.
In Little Empty Boxes, animation transcends storytelling—it becomes a visual language that connects emotion with fact. Following Kathy Lugavere’s fight against dementia through her son Max’s eyes, the film uses mixed-media collage to explore memory, identity, and loss. Vintage textures intertwine with modern elements, symbolizing fragmented memories assembling into a larger whole. Surreal yet grounded visuals evoke nostalgia and dissonance, transforming complex scientific and personal stories into a poetic, accessible experience. This approach pushes documentary animation’s boundaries, blending raw emotion with artistic vision to create a powerful, deeply human narrative.
